Welcome
A little about me!
I am a student at Shepherd High School. I play 3 sports and I am a sophomore. I play baseball, basketball and football and I at one time wanted to only play baseball as a freshman, and I'm so glad I didn't.
This blog is going to be focused around playing more than one sport in high school and how doing so can help your chances to be better at the sports that you play. So say you play baseball, the first practice is around march if you are from where I am, Michigan, then you have plenty of time to play other sports in the late summer (Football, Cross Country, ect.) and in the winter (Basketball, Power-lifting, ect.) to help you get in better shape and to be more active. And if you are a college recruit, and you are able to play 2 or 3 sports it not only shows that you are an all around good or marginal athlete, but you can also keep up good grades, otherwise you wouldn’t typically let you play if your sport if you aren’t passing your class. Urban Meyer, Ohio State’s football coach, when he recruited football players for his team recruited 42 multi-sport athletes and only 5 football only high school athletes, shown in the picture above. I am a multi sport athlete and play football, baseball and basketball.
As a freshman I thought that I could get so much better at baseball if I only played that sport. I had heard that the basketball coach was fun and cool, and I had been playing in gym classes and got interested in playing basketball. That baseball season I was in such good shape and got a whole lot faster. As a sophomore, (this year) I played football, and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. And in the same way that basketball had helped me for baseball, football has helped me so much for basketball this season. I am so glad that I wanted to play more than one sport, because, without it I may not be in the physical shape that I am in right now, and I am also only one of two people in my class that play 3 sports. This is only the beginning of a very huge topic.
I'll be posting on this blog every 2-3 weeks so stay posted and subscribe. Thanks!

The multi sport athlete is really fading out. If you take a good look at this link, you will see that most of the professional athletes that play or did play two professional sports, were almost only from before our generation. Think of people like Deion Sanders, He played football for the Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins and also the Baltimore Ravens, and he also played baseball for the Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, and San Francisco Giants. His last team he was on was the Baltimore Ravens in 2005 and he is the last professional athlete of this era. He won 2 superbowls and he was a stellar athlete. There aren’t very many athletes anymore that are good enough to play 2 professional sports. It’s hard enough to make the pros in one sport let alone two. Deion played baseball, basketball, and baseball in high school, earning All-State in each sport. He also was the first person ever to play in the Superbowl and in The World Series.
Another H.O.F athlete who played two of the power four sports, Michael Jordan. He played NBA basketball for the Chicago Bulls, and in the MLB he played for the Chicago White Sox. In a pattern you can see that both of these players stayed close to their other sports. Many high school athletes think that they will never go pro, but by playing more than one sport can increase their chances by a huge margin. If they play more than one sport they will be more likely recruited by a college coach. Urban Meyer (the Ohio State football coach) recruited about 40 more players that played 2 or more sports. Thanks for reading. Another blog coming soon. Thanks!

So I was thinking about a week ago, after our last basketball game, and I wasn’t completely giving up on the season, but I was getting to the point where I could really just end the basketball season and start fresh with baseball. Then on Monday I though I just wish I could get healthy for baseball, and sadly realized that until the day that I step off the baseball diamond, I will never be 100% healthy for the next sport. I will get to heal up a little bit over the summer but even then in the beginning of the summer we have football workouts, and we have 7 on 7s so for Multi-sport athletes like me especially athletes that play 3 or more sports, you never get a break. And the three sports I play are all very physically demanding.
I mean let’s be real, I don’t care how badly someone wants to argue with me, track and cross country are not that greuling on your complete body. For example, in football, you are getting hit all the time, and you are always going to be sore and you lift weights almost every day. Cross country, your practices have a few miles of running, which we do in football as well, but on top of it we are getting hit, and you’re in full pads.
But at the same time if being 100% healthy was the main goal, then I would play absolutely no sports and stay at home, and that would make school really boring. I’m not trying to make a claim that I am complaining, but at times it would be nice to be able to have a little heal pack to get rid of all the growing pains, and all the bruises and the shoulder soreness, and twisted ankles but at the same time without that, you wouldn’t get any tougher. Being a three sport athlete is not an easy thing to do in many ways. I thought that it would be easy and on top of keeping my grades up, and being able to get better within each sport.
After this basketball season I am really tempted to be focusing on basketball instead of baseball. That is just how it goes when you try new things, you may like the new thing more than what you used to do.Depending on this baseball season, and It just seems like it has been 5 years since I picked up a ball and bat and just went out and played. Football is out of the picture because I am not big enough to go anywhere and there is absolutely no chance for me to get a scholarship for football. I play because I like to play the game, and it got me in such good shape, got me stronger, and gave me a big challenge.
Thanks for checking out my blog! More coming soon!
