Poem #1
Acrostic
I wrote this poem because baseball is my favorite sport and is played in the spring and sports in general are my life.
Spring seasons come so much quicker than they should.
Past teammates will always be somewhere in my heart.
Over exaggerating everything that happened in last nights game.
Realising that I only have so many games left.
Thanking all of my coaches and teammates for all of the memories.
Shepherd High School sports have shaped me as more than just an athlete.
Past teammates will always be somewhere in my heart.
Over exaggerating everything that happened in last nights game.
Realising that I only have so many games left.
Thanking all of my coaches and teammates for all of the memories.
Shepherd High School sports have shaped me as more than just an athlete.
Poem #2
List Poem
I wrote this poem because each of these people in my poem are known for each thing in baseball, and are all my heros in some small way.
In the Clouds
I want to take infield with Derek Jeter,
Perfect my swing with The Kid,
Take batting practice with Miguel Cabrera,
Play long toss with Aroldis Chapman,
Steal a base with Rajai Davis,
Throw a bullpen with Max Scherzer,
Turn a double play with Ian KInsler,
Get a haircut with Bryce Harper,
Customize a glove with Dustin Pedroia,
Sit in the dugout with Joe Torre,
Talk baseball with Vin Scully,
And go back in time,
With the Great Bambino,
To see,
“The Called Shot”

Poem #3
Just Because
I wrote this poem because many people think that athletes are special people and that we only care about stats and are jocks. I do not belive that one bit and I hope this opens eyes.
Just because I'm an athlete
I'm not a jock
I'm not a meathead
Just because I'm an athlete
I'm not dumb
I'm not going D1
I'm not not going to have fun
Just because I'm an athlete
I know I am competitive
I can't just play for fun
I'm not getting special treatment
Just because I'm an athlete -- let me play my sports.
I'm not a jock
I'm not a meathead
Just because I'm an athlete
I'm not dumb
I'm not going D1
I'm not not going to have fun
Just because I'm an athlete
I know I am competitive
I can't just play for fun
I'm not getting special treatment
Just because I'm an athlete -- let me play my sports.
Poem #4
I am
I am sports. I am who I am because of sports and I would not have it any other way.
I am
Baseball, Basketball, Football.
I love competing and making my family proud.
Unselfishness is important to me.
Winning is important to me.
My mom in the stands is the most important thing to me.
Hard work is the foundation of any good person.
Grit can be bad, but I have to have it to make myself
stick out in the crowd.
The world is getting too nice.
The longer the home runs, the louder people cheer.
People need to feel the love in sports.
I am.

I am.
Poem #5
Free Verse
This poem is different than any other poem I have written. I wrote this trying to prove a point that one, things will come way quicker than they seem, and two, that when everyone doubted me, I did everything I could to prove them wrong.
And now it is here.
I did it.
I cannot believe it was so far away.
One mission
My last time stepping between those foul lines.
One thing on my mind
My first home run.
Many years in the making
My first complete game.
I have to finish what I started
My last first game.
Treat every game like it is my last
My mom in the stands for the last time.
The loudest person out there
My goals that are set very high.
They bet against me
Playing sports is my safeplace.
They doubted me
My getaway from the world.
Now they wish they did not have to face me
The place that I go when I need closure.
The cage is where I live
When I need hope.
Nobody can stop me
All I ever wanted to do was make my mom proud.
I will do it every night
¨Not good enough.¨
I will prove them wrong
¨Too cocky.¨
Trust me, I know.
I did it.
I cannot believe it was so far away.

Poem #6
Elegy
I wrote this poem because I am saying goodbye to my sports forever in less than one month. There is something that hit me and I wrote this.
Goodbye baseball.
It has been fun.
Laughs,
Bruises,
Painkillers,
Sweat,
Blood.
I would not trade anything I have done on that diamond for anything,
I would not trade a teammate for anything.
This program as meant so much to me over the years.
Goodbye sore arms,
Long bus rides.
Looking up and seeing my mom with my home run ball.
Running in the stands to grab another gatorade.
Giving my 4 year old brother knucks in the on deck circle.
Crying junior year because I let my team down.
Looking up to the seniors as a freshman and thinking
¨Eh, its four years from now, it is so far away.¨
Goodbye baseball. It has been one hell of a four years.
There are no words that I could put together to explain what baseball means to me.
I really want to go on to the next level.
But there is nothing that I wouldn't do to get another four years.
There have to be laces on my heart by now.
Goodbye baseball. It has been a crazy ride, and I would definitely go on that roller coaster one more time in a heartbeat.
It has been fun.

Poem #7
Haiku
Sports are a huge part of my life and I have put so much time and effort into them that without them I do not know who I would be.
Baseball, Basketball
Football. Blood sweat and tears have
Shaped me for four years
Football. Blood sweat and tears have
Shaped me for four years
Poem #8
Free Verse
I wrote this poem because my mom played a large role in my love for sports and without her, I have no idea what kind of person I would be right now.
Baseball is my safeplace.
I have played for as long as I can physically remember.
Baseball does something for me that nothing else in this world has ever done.
My mom and I share a bond that is held together tightly through this sport I call baseball.
I would not trade anything for what I have gone through in the last 4 years.
There is nothing out there that compares to baseball in my eyes.
Coming up on the second half of my last highschool sports season makes me realize how real all of this is.
All that I want to say is thanks to everyone who has supported me, but I want to separately thank my mom for everything she has done for me.
I am the athlete that I am because of her, and without her, I do not know where I would be.
I have played for as long as I can physically remember.
Baseball does something for me that nothing else in this world has ever done.

Poem #9
I Don´t Understand
Baseball is my softspot, and I will forever love it and need it in my life. This poem shows how it feels to think when I only have a couple weeks left to play.
I don't understand
why I cannot play baseball forever
why it has to end
why it hurts so bad to lose
But most of all
why people do not feel the same way as me
why people quit
why people think everyone deserves a trophy
why I am such a jock
What I understand most is
why bats break
why losing sucks
why winning is amazing
why baseball is the best sport in this world.
why I cannot play baseball forever
why it has to end
why it hurts so bad to lose
But most of all
why people do not feel the same way as me
why people quit
why people think everyone deserves a trophy
why I am such a jock
What I understand most is
why bats break
why losing sucks
why winning is amazing
why baseball is the best sport in this world.
Poem #10
Creed
I wrote this poem because sports mean a ton to me and being a senior and nearing the end of my highschool sports career, and not knowing if I have a place to play after highschool, kills me more than anything.
I believe in the ¨Do not step on the line rule,¨
the importance of good coaches,
the impact an athlete can have on a little kid´s life,
the value of a ¨go-to guy,¨
the benefit of hard work,
Competitiveness, love for the game, and being yelled at.
But the idea that everyone gets a trophy is beyond arrogant.
I believe in playing for the man to my left and right,
I believe in winning every play,
I believe in setting goals,
leading, improving, striving for greatness.
And I believe in the fact that I never knew what it felt like
for a sport to be over, until it really was.
the importance of good coaches,
the impact an athlete can have on a little kid´s life,
